Product Description
The largest amphibious invasion on the Pacific campaign and the last major campaign of the war in the Pacific was the Battle of Okinawa. In October 1944, the Allied forces targeted the island of Okinawa for invasion because of its strategic position as a base from which assault troops could stage and train for an attack on the Japanese mainland. To prepare for the invasion, an enormous naval armada was assembled, including aircraft carriers, battleships, destroyers and support ships. Assaulting the island would be more than 182,000 soldiers and Marines.
